About us

Built by hikers. Run for dogs.

Mutty Mountaineers is a doggy day hike company serving Hudson County and beyond. We provide nature hikes and infinite adventures as a unique enrichment activity for city dogs. Every trail brings new smells, new views, and a new chance for maximum fun.

As avid hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, with a big soft spot for all dogs, we wanted to combine our two passions. With a little inspiration from our pack leader Slider, we came up with Mutty Mountaineers so that more dogs can experience the great outdoors. We believe that natural environments aid in dogs' emotional regulation and provide a real space to decompress.

What we do

Real trails. Tired tails.

Every hike is a full-day adventure built around small-group safety, enrichment, and a whole lot of excitement.

Small pack hikes

Energy and size-matched groups on alternating NJ & NY trails. New sights, smells, and sounds every day.

Door-to-door service

Each day's pick-up route starts at 9 AM. We drive, you don't lift a leash. Drop-off begins at 3 PM.

Manners on the move

We reinforce basic commands and trail etiquette so your pup builds skills and keeps their minds active as they explore.

Water, treats & rests

Scheduled water and snack breaks keep tails up and paws happy from trailhead to home.

Photos & videos

You get the candid mountain-dog shots and updates throughout the day. We get the muddy boots.

Trail care & wipe down

We apply plant-based flea and tick repellent before heading out, give every coat a thorough brush at trail's end to check for biting bugs, and finish with a full paw and coat wipe down so your dog comes home tired and trail-clean.

The honest truth

Your dog probably needs more than they're getting

Many city dogs get one or two short walks a day. That's the minimum and not the goal. Here's what a real workout actually does for their body, brain, and behavior.

Heart & healthy weight

Trail hiking burns up to three times more calories than a flat walk. Regular incline work supports cardiovascular health and helps dogs maintain a healthy weight without needing to diet.

Calmer

Anxiety & stress

Time in nature lowers cortisol in dogs just as it does in people. Dogs with anxiety, reactivity, or nervous energy show real improvement with consistent outdoor enrichment.

Fewer

Behavior problems

Chewing, barking, jumping, and destructive behavior are usually symptoms of pent-up energy, not a bad dog. Dogs that get genuine output have far fewer reasons to act out at home.

Deeper

Sleep & recovery

A dog genuinely tired out by miles of trail, new scents, and new challenges settles faster and sleeps more deeply. That peaceful evening you've been hoping for is just one hike away.

Does this sound like your dog?

Barks or whines excessively at home
Chews furniture, shoes, or household items
Pulls hard on leash or jumps on everyone
Can't seem to settle or relax indoors
Reactive toward other dogs or strangers
Paces, licks obsessively, or shows anxious habits

These aren't signs of a bad dog. They're almost always signs of a dog who hasn't had the chance to really run yet.

All trail days invite sniffing, exploration, and movement at the appropriate pace.

Every level delivers the same full day of adventure, socialization, door-to-door service, photos, and enrichment. The only difference is elevation, pace, and the kind of challenge that suits your dog's age, breed, conditioning, and energy level. No level is better! They're just built for different dogs!
